Kucing is a Malay word meaning Cat
We headed over to the other side of Kuching for the Cat Museum.
After seeing several Cat sculptures around the city, we thought that the Museum was a must to discover more...
The Museum is in the North Kuching Council building on top of a hill, so we had great views of Kuching City as well as this huge Cat mural (we are enjoying the murals painted across the city).
The Museum was a mix of kitsch and interesting facts about Kuching and Cats.
This is a traditional baby carrier of the Orung ulu
We discovered that the possible reason for Kuching getting its name was due to the popularity of the Cat on the banks of the Sarawak River.
Garfield was represented...
As well as the many Cat memes and sayings...
Such as "Let the cat out of the bag" and "Catwalk"
There was even a fish tank with catfish in it.
Outside the Museum, there was another gallery with a little history of Kuching. It included information about Astana. It was built in 1870 by Charles Brooke (the second "white Rajah" of Sarawak) as a bridal gift to his wife. It is now the official residence of the Governor of Sarawak.
We eat another yummy lunch in the cafeteria.
Heidi tried Bundung Air - a rose syrup and milk drink that tasted like Turkish Delight.
It was then off to India Street Markets for more shopping.
The hibiscus flower is the National flower of Malaysia
We found everything that we wanted, including some shoes that Heidi bought to embarrass her girls ;)
They were selling fruit in containers and plastic bags
And many of the shops had the traditional costumes - this is the Bidayuh costume.
A gorgeous sunset on our way home
