Rain Rain go away

Today's adventure was visiting 2 caves and the night market at Siniawan.

First stop the Fairy Cave

A great view as we climbed the stairs

The concrete landings as we ascended the stairs on the way to the entrance to the cave had these leaf decorations imprinted in them

Once inside, we climbed 2 steep ladders and were awestruck by the cavern in front of us. We spent a fair amount of time exploring the cave before heading into the dark tunnel.

As we walked further into the tunnel, we were kicking ourselves for forgetting our torches! With Bianca's assistance, we had fun taking photos of all sorts of shapes, seeing objects in the formations with our imagination.

It was then a short drive to the wind cave. When we arrived, we were told that due to the storm, we were unable to enter as it was unsafe. We waited until the last entry time, but the rain and storm continued.

So an early dinner it was. And much to Mum's delight, Bandung Air was on the menu :)

It was still raining after lunch/dinner, so we donned our ponchos and explored the night markets in Siniawan

Even though this area is still under construction we had to get a photo of the I heart Siniawan sign

Before we left we thought that we should stop into one of the establishments. This one is owned by Andy and Grace, who live in the village across the river. They come over on the crocodile-infested river every day to their pub.

And to celebrate the fact that we managed to sort out Catherine's Anuity (the paperwork we were doing at the beginning of our holiday) it called for a celebration - Mum received the email as we waited at the Wind cave. They had Ginger Tuak - our new favourite drink! This is made by Grace's sister.

And of course, we had to support the locals and buy one of their locally made shirts

As we were leaving, we got to see the lanterns lit up

  1. Fairy Cave looked impressive and despite the rain managed to do the night market. Any excuse to have some more Tuak !!!

    1. Even though it has rained every day we have been very lucky with the timing of the rain! When the Tuak tastes so good of course!
