Serikin Weekend street Market

 Set off early this morning so that we got to the markets before it was too hot as it was a long but scenic drive.

We stopped at a Buddhist cave that we were driving past.








Then off to the street Markets in Serikin. First stall and first purchase!


They were even selling fish!

After the markets on the way home we went to Tasik Biru (Blue Lake) which is an old quarry that the villagers filled with water to stop the gold being mined.



We ate lunch in a food court with lake views.




There was a loud band playing while we ate.




Mum and I then walked over the lake on the floating walkway where we were given 2 softdrinks each.




We then had a treat - a Durian and a Red Bean ice-cream.

We then drove home an even more scenic route

    I liked the Buddhist Cave. Hope the Durian icecream didnt smell like a Durian!! Floating walkway Looked like a different experience.

 The whole time we have been here, it has been hot, humid and rained every day except for three. It seems to be 33 degrees every time we look at the temperature and humidity, around 70-90. A step back in time

 After another chilled morning, we head off into Kuching after Ann's grandmother's duties. Drove past the Borneo Convention Centre... And another impressive roundabout  Fort Margherita Note the emblem above the door The Brooke family crest and motto, "While I breathe, I hope" Inside had very well laid out displays and information on the Brooke family and their involvement in the modern history of Sarawak and the way that they looked after the interests of the indigenous people of Sarawak. James Brooke's intentions were noble and were honoured through the family as each 'White Rajah' took up their position.  Interesting title! Cassandra came to visit this afternoon, and Wilbur was very excited to spend time with her Lucas then cooked us a yummy Kue Tiau dish Ann had bought us some lemang - sticky rice so we also tried some of that Ann came back with some yummy fries with salted egg mayonnaise We were then able to give Cassandra her gifts We then took the chance to recreate a photo Linda had of herself when she was 42 Then... and now ... We chilled out for the afternoon, catching up with each other and the blog, etc The weather for the afternoon was a bit patchy We visited Lucas's sister Rosalind and her daughters Irene and Anna-Maria Sape' that Lucas's Dad Uchau Dilung used to play - he took the large one to play in many countries including the Sydney Opera House Gawai is a harvest festival that lasts a month, and we were blessed to be in the Kampung when the closing ceremony was being held.
