Sky High in Singapore: Gardens, Views & Fireworks

After working out the buses the day before, we jumped on and made our way towards the Gardens by the Bay.

Getting closer to the Skypark

We even navigated changing of bus routes to get close to the Gardens

Missed seeing the Merlion up close - too much to see and do in 2 days!

It wasn't just plants in the gardens, it was also full of wonderful sculptures

Gardeners on the floating island

There were several different areas in the Gardens, the Serene Gardens were just that. At the entrance were these petrified wood stools.

We walked all the way around to the end of the gardens, where it was very peaceful because no one else had ventured that far

We had bought a ticket to go up the Supertrees on a skywalk

It was a fun experience with great views of the other trees and the area.

We learnt that the super trees were built for function as well as asthetics and a tourism draw card. "Each Supertree is adorned with a vibrant mix of ferns, orchids, bromeliads, and other climbing plants, resulting in a lush, green facade that evolves with the seasons." They were built to mimic trees, and the idea for them was inspired by the West Australian Eucalypts. "They are equipped to harness solar energy, enhance air circulation, and collect rainwater."

As well as the observatory (which was inside and on top of the tallest of the trees). The lift to go up inside had an awesome installation in it.

There was a cafe, so Linda had a quick pick-me-up

It was then time to head into cooler climates and enter the cloud forest that had a Jurassic Park exhibition installed.

They had Wollemi pines!

The Crystal Cave inside the forest structure

Another fun installation on the way out (very similar to one that we had seen in the Borneo Cultures Museum).

The last stop in the Gardens was the Flower Dome

What looks like stones wasn't always - these are a mix of pebbles and plants

To look down on everywhere we had walked that morning

Having paid to go to the top of the sky park, we thought we could at least have a drink in the bar, but it was closed, so we had to make do with sitting on a bench outside, drinking from a plastic cup

After placing our mark on where we come from, we headed home for a quick rest and change to go out for dinner and a show

All trails showing the days exploration

We were too tired to take a photo of the room before Heidi exploded her gear.

2 for 1 drinks at Jules Epicurean French Restaurant by the river

While eating our delicious dinner, we were treated with glimpses of the airshow practice for the National Day parade and SG60 celebration. We heard more than we saw, but it was still fun

Then, on dusk, we made our way to the Event plaza with the thousands of others to watch the laser light show and firework rehearsal

The Rain Oculus from above

After an hour and a half wait in the taxi line with hundreds of others wanting the same thing - to get home, we finally collapsed in bed for a short sleep before our flight home to cold Brissie.
